Stockroom

Cost of goods sold, posted to QuickBooks for you

Stockroom computes your true COGS from the costs you paid. MyWorks Sync posts it to QuickBooks as a daily or monthly journal entry, so your books relieve inventory as goods sell without a spreadsheet in between.

Why this number

A COGS figure your accountant can defend

Shopify holds one flat cost per variant, and editing it restates every historical report that reads it. Stockroom's COGS is built the way your books need it.

  • Layered costs. FIFO or weighted average, your choice, computed from the purchase orders you received rather than a single editable cost field.
  • Landed. Freight, duty and fees allocated at receiving are part of the unit cost, so the journal carries the full cost of the goods.
  • FX-settled. Supplier-currency POs convert at receipt, so an invoice in EUR or CNY lands in your books in your currency.
  • Immutable once posted. Each day finalizes after a settling window and does not change after that. Late data posts as a dated correction entry, so your closed periods stay closed.
How it works

From sale to journal entry

MyWorks Sync already posts your bills as inventory asset purchases. The COGS journal is the other half: it relieves that asset as goods sell.

  • Stockroom keeps the ledger. Every sale consumes cost layers, and the COGS for each day is finalized into a posted ledger built for accounting.
  • MyWorks Sync posts the entry. A journal entry in QuickBooks (debit COGS, credit inventory asset), created automatically on your schedule.
  • Daily or monthly. Daily entries if you want your books to track closely, or one entry per month, dated month end, if you prefer a tidy register.
  • Turn it on in MyWorks. Connect both apps to your store, then enable COGS journal entries in your MyWorks Sync settings.

Common questions

COGS journal FAQ

Do I need MyWorks Sync to use Stockroom?

No. Stockroom is complete and free on its own, including its COGS reports. MyWorks Sync is our paid product that syncs your store to QuickBooks, including orders, inventory and more. The COGS journal is one of the things it posts.

What does the journal entry look like?

A debit to your COGS account and a credit to your inventory asset account, keyed to the day (or month) it covers. You choose the accounts in MyWorks Sync.

What happens when data arrives late?

The COGS for each day finalizes after a settling window and is not rewritten. If anything material lands after that, Stockroom posts the difference as a dated correction entry, so nothing in a closed period changes.

Should I pick daily or monthly?

Monthly keeps the register tidy: one entry dated the last day of the month, created once the whole month has settled. Daily is there if you want your books tracking closely all month. Both carry the same totals.

Which costing methods are supported?

FIFO or weighted average, chosen in Stockroom settings. The journal follows whichever method your Stockroom is set to.
