Stockroom vs Stocky
Stocky was free with POS Pro and did the purchasing job well for years: forecast-driven POs, suppliers with price lists, receiving at the till, average cost. Shopify retired it on 31 August 2026, and it is read-only for export. Stockroom imports that export with full history and picks up where Stocky left off, free on any Shopify plan, with or without POS Pro.

Creating purchase orders
Stocky built a PO from a supplier or a forecast. Stockroom adds the other places an order starts.

Stocky’s average unit cost was the feature merchants missed most. Stockroom keeps it and adds the price side.

What Stockroom adds
What a PO in Stockroom does that Stocky never did, on top of everything Stocky did.
- It runs on any plan. No POS Pro, no plan requirement, no limit on POs, suppliers or SKUs. Stores that only had Stocky because of POS Pro keep the purchasing without the subscription.
- Your Stocky history comes with you. Export Stocky’s purchase order reports as CSV and Stockroom imports them with full history, costs and receiving. Suppliers are rebuilt from the vendors on your products.
- The supplier can answer. Open tracking on the email, a confirmation link with no login, tracking added by the supplier, and a Network delivery straight into a supplier’s own Shopify store.
- Receiving fits in a pocket. Scan with a phone camera as well as in POS and at the desk. Read the invoice photo to fill in the counts. Undo a wrong receive.
- Prices keep up with costs. Stocky synced the average cost. Stockroom also shows where a cost rise ate your margin and pushes a new price to Shopify when you confirm.
- Transfers and returns are back. Stock transfers between locations, which Stocky lost in 2025, and returns to the supplier with a credit note, which it never had.
- It tells you how your suppliers perform. On-time and lead-time reports per supplier, spend by supplier, and 23 reports in all.
- It works from your AI assistant. Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant over MCP and ask it to draft a PO or receive a delivery. Stockroom shows a preview before anything moves.
- QuickBooks is a setting, not a workaround. MyWorks Sync posts each PO and bill into QuickBooks. Stocky needed a third-party app on its API, which stopped working on 31 August 2026.
Bringing Stocky across
Shopify keeps Stocky readable for export for at least 90 days after 31 August 2026. That is the window.
- Export the purchase order reports. In Stocky, download the completed purchase order reports as CSV, plus your stocktake history and cost data if you want them. Suppliers cannot be exported from Stocky, and Stockroom does not need them.
- Import into Stockroom. Stockroom reads the Stocky export and recreates each PO with its lines, costs, receiving and dates. Suppliers are created from the vendors on your Shopify products and matched to the import.
- Receive or close the open ones in Stockroom. A Stocky PO that was still open when Stocky closed left its incoming quantity standing in Shopify. Receiving the imported PO in Stockroom clears it, and closing it retracts what is no longer coming.
Questions we get
Is Stockroom the replacement for Stocky?
It is the closest one. Shopify’s own replacement is the purchase orders page in the admin, which records a PO but does not email it, receive on it, work out landed cost or forecast. Stockroom does all of that, free, and imports your Stocky history. There is a page comparing Stockroom with Shopify’s built-in POs too.
Can I still get my data out of Stocky?
Yes, for at least 90 days after 31 August 2026 according to Shopify’s transition page. Stocky is read-only, so you can run its reports and download them as CSV. Do it soon rather than late. Stockroom imports the purchase order reports with full history.
Do I need POS Pro for Stockroom?
No. Stockroom works on any Shopify plan and with any POS tier. The POS receiving and PO tiles are there if you use Shopify POS, and nothing depends on it.
Does Stockroom sync average cost to Shopify like Stocky did?
Yes, with one difference. Stocky overwrote cost per item automatically when the setting was on. Stockroom shows the new landed cost after each receive, as a weighted average or the latest cost, and asks before it writes to Shopify. Receiving at POS can update cost automatically if you leave that setting on.
What about Stocky’s forecasting methods?
Stockroom calculates reorder points from your sales every night and builds a buy plan grouped by supplier, with lead time and minimums applied. It does not offer Stocky’s six named methods as a menu. Most stores find the nightly plan covers what they used Fill shelves or Last X days for.
What does Stockroom cost?
Purchase orders and receiving are free, and they stay free. That is the core of the app. As Stockroom grows into deeper inventory management, the advanced end of that will be paid, along with hands-on onboarding and priority support. Pushing your POs and bills into QuickBooks is a paid MyWorks Sync subscription.
