Stockroom
Finale from $499 a month on a contract. Stockroom is free

Stockroom vs Finale Inventory for purchasing

Finale is a multi-channel inventory system that becomes the record of what you have, with purchasing as one module, from $499 a month on a 12 to 36 month term. It was bought by Descartes in 2025 and sells as Descartes Finale. Stockroom keeps Shopify as the record and does the purchasing job on top of it, free, inside your admin: POs, receiving, landed cost and reordering.

What Stockroom adds

What Stockroom does that Finale leaves to you, or does somewhere other than Shopify.

  • It lives in your Shopify admin. Purchase orders, receiving and reports open inside Shopify, next to the products and orders they are about. There is no second system to log into or keep in sync.
  • Shopify shows what is coming. Mark a PO ordered and the incoming quantity appears on the product in Shopify and POS. Finale pushes the sellable quantity and nothing about open POs.
  • Receiving happens where the boxes are. Scan at the desk, at the till in Shopify POS, or with a phone camera, on any plan. Finale’s scanner app is Android only and starts on the Growth plan.
  • Shopify’s cost keeps up. After a receive, Stockroom shows the landed cost per unit, allocated by value, quantity or weight, and writes it to Shopify’s cost per item when you confirm.
  • Prices keep up with costs. The price review report shows where a cost rise ate your margin and suggests a new price you can push to Shopify.
  • Suppliers hold their terms and compete. Payment terms, a currency, price lists with quantity breaks, pack sizes and minimums live on each supplier, and the cheaper one is flagged on the PO. Finale keeps one buy price per supplier in one currency.
  • Suppliers can answer. A confirmation link with no login, tracking added by the supplier, open tracking on the email, and a Network delivery straight into a supplier’s own Shopify store.
  • It works from your AI assistant. Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant over MCP and ask it to draft a PO or receive a delivery. Stockroom shows a preview before anything moves.
  • No contract. Finale’s customers typically sign 12 to 36 month terms, with usage fees above the volume in the agreement. Stockroom installs from the App Store with no term and no caps.
When Shopify is one channel of many

Where Finale is the better fit

Finale is a multi-channel inventory record, and these are the jobs of one. Stockroom does not do them.

  • One stock record across many channels. Amazon FBA and AWD, eBay, Walmart, Etsy, TikTok Shop, Faire, several Shopify stores and other carts, all drawing on one inventory. Stockroom works on one Shopify store and keeps Shopify as the record.
  • Several warehouses and a 3PL portal. Per-channel stock sources, reorder suggestions that move stock between warehouses before buying more, and a client login for 3PL customers. Stockroom reorders per Shopify location and transfers between them.
  • A warehouse module on handheld scanners. Wave picking, pick and pack, cycle counts and transfers on Zebra and Honeywell devices, on the Growth plan and up. Stockroom has bins, pick lists and scanning at the desk, in POS and on a phone.
  • Books posted from inside the system. POs, bills, invoices, COGS and inventory value journals into QuickBooks Online or Xero, summarised daily, weekly or monthly. Stockroom’s accounting path today is QuickBooks Online through MyWorks Sync, with Xero coming.
  • Custom report datasets and EDI. Spreadsheet-style custom reports on any field, scheduled to a distribution list, and EDI and API access on the Enterprise plan. Stockroom has 23 fixed reports with CSV export and scheduling.

Questions we get

Is Stockroom a replacement for Finale Inventory?

For purchasing on a Shopify store, yes. For a multi-channel inventory record across marketplaces and warehouses, no. If Shopify is your business and you are paying $499 a month or more on a contract mainly for purchase orders, receiving and reordering, Stockroom does that part free and keeps Shopify as the record.

Is Finale Inventory still Finale?

It is part of Descartes now. Descartes bought Finale Inventory on 4 August 2025 and sells it as Descartes Finale alongside Sellercloud and Peoplevox. The product, its Shopify connector and its help center carry on under the new name.

Where does my inventory live with Stockroom?

In Shopify. Stockroom writes incoming quantities when you mark a PO ordered and received stock at the destination location when you receive, and both show in Shopify’s inventory history. Finale holds its own stock record and pushes a sellable quantity to Shopify.

Does Finale show incoming stock in Shopify?

Nothing in its documentation says it writes Shopify’s incoming figure. It pushes the quantity remaining after reservations, within minutes of a change. Stockroom writes incoming to Shopify when you mark a PO ordered, so the product page and POS show what is coming.

Which costing methods do they use?

Finale’s help center says it supports average costing only, with no FIFO or LIFO. In Stockroom every receipt is a cost layer, and the COGS and stock on hand reports can walk them FIFO or as a weighted average. What Stockroom offers Shopify’s cost per item is a weighted average or the latest cost, which you confirm.

Can I move my Finale purchase orders into Stockroom?

Stockroom imports a whole PO from CSV and suppliers from CSV, so open orders and supplier records can come across from an export. Most stores finish what is open in Finale and start the next order in Stockroom, where suppliers are already created from the vendors on their Shopify products.

What does Finale cost?

Essentials starts at $499 a month and Growth at $799, with Enterprise by quote. The price depends on users, integrations, order volume and add-ons, most customers sign a 12, 24 or 36 month term, and usage above the agreement carries extra fees. Onboarding is included and there is no trial. As published on Finale’s pricing page on 14 September 2026.

What does Stockroom cost?

Purchase orders and receiving are free, and they stay free. That is the core of the app. As Stockroom grows into deeper inventory management, the advanced end of that will be paid, along with hands-on onboarding and priority support. Pushing your POs and bills into QuickBooks is a paid MyWorks Sync subscription.
